US Visa: The US Mission in India said on Friday that it has issued more than one million non-immigrant visas for the second consecutive year. The number of travelers coming from India has increased fivefold in the last four years. More than 2 million Indians have traveled to the US in the first 11 months of 2024. This is 26 percent more than in 2023.
New Delhi. The US has issued more than 1 million non-immigrant visas to Indians for the second consecutive year, including a record number of visitor visas. A statement issued by the US Embassy in India said that after the 2008/2009 academic year, India has become the top country sending international students in 2024.
What is a non-immigrant visa?
Overall, more than 331,000 students are studying in the US. Non-immigrant visas are issued to foreign nationals who seek admission to the US on a temporary basis. Additionally, India has maintained its position as the largest contributor of international graduate students for two consecutive years, with the number increasing by 19 per cent to nearly 200,000.

26 percent increase in 11 months
The number of visitors from India has increased five times in the last four years and more than 20 lakh Indians have visited the US. In the first 11 months of 2024, there has been a 26 percent increase in the number of Indians visiting the US as compared to the same period in 2023. This year a pilot project was worked out to renew H-1B visas in US states. It was successful.
Permission to renew visas without leaving the US. The State Department is working to formally establish a US-based renewal program in 2025, which is expected to benefit a large number of Indians.
50 lakh Indians have non-immigrant visas
The US Embassy said that more than 50 lakh Indians already have non-immigrant visas to visit the US and the mission issues thousands more visas every day. The US Mission has also provided more than 24,000 passports and other consular services to American citizens living and traveling in India, the embassy said.
