UGC NET Dec 2024: There is a big update regarding the UGC NET exam. NTA has postponed the NET exam to be held on January 15. The agency has taken this decision in view of festivals like Pongal and Makar Sankranti.
UGC NET Dec 2024: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has postponed the UGC-NET exam scheduled to be held on January 15 due to festivals like Pongal and Makar Sankranti. The agency said in an official notice that the revised exam date will be announced later. NTA Examination Director Rajesh Kumar said that the NTA had received requests to postpone the examination on January 15 due to festivals including Pongal and Makar Sankranti. After which the examination has been postponed in the interest of the candidates. A new date of the examination will be announced later.
He said that the examination will be held on January 16 as per the earlier schedule. On January 15, exams were scheduled for 17 subjects including Mass Communication and Journalism, Sanskrit, Nepali, Law, Japanese, Women’s Studies, Malayalam, Urdu, Konkani, Criminology, Folk Literature, Electronic Science, Environmental Science and Indian Knowledge System.
Tamil Nadu government had made the demand
The demand to postpone the UGC NET exam scheduled on January 15 was made by Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister Govi Chezhiyan. In view of the Pongal festival, he had demanded the central government to reschedule the UGC NET exam to be held from January 14 to 16. He also wrote a letter to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in this regard. In which he said that NTA has scheduled the UGC NET December 2024 exam from January 3 to January 16. However, Pongal is on January 14, Tiruvallur Day (Mattu Pongal) on January 15 and Farmers Day (Uzhavar Thirunal or Kanum Pongal) on January 16.
