The government has taken several steps to curb fake calls and messages. These measures include collaboration with international operators, use of AI technology, and blocking millions of suspicious connections. The government has also adopted a call prevention system, with the help of which more than 70 percent of international fraud calls have been blocked.
Government has taken rapid action on fake calls and messages in the recent past, the effect of which is visible on the ground. Also, a major crackdown has been seen on international fraud calls coming on Indian numbers. The government had implemented the call prevention system, which has helped in blocking about 70 percent of international calls. The result of this is that the number of international fraud calls from about 1.5 crore per day has come down to 5 lakh. However, now scammers have started using virtual private networks.
Big exercise to stop fake calls
According to ET’s report, the Department of Telecommunications says that measures were being taken for a long time to get rid of international fake calls and messages. International operators and AI have been used for this. This has been a long process, as there is no mathematical formula to stop international fake calls.
How many SIM cards and connections were blocked
The government has so far blocked about 78 lakh connections related to fake calls and messages. Also, about 2 lakh mobile connections have been blocked. Apart from this, 9,828 SIM cards have been blocked, which were under suspicion of making fake calls in India. The government has blocked about 5 lakh fake calls every day.
AI tool helped in stopping fake calls
Around 520 agencies were working to stop fake calls. In this, banks have also played an important role in stopping fake calls by joining the digital intelligence platform. If the report is to be believed, fake SIM cards have been identified with the help of AI powered tool (ASTR) and 365 FIRs have been registered in this case. And 1900 points of sale have been closed.
However, complete success has not been achieved on fake calls and messages yet. In such a situation, the government has started tightening the screws on the private telecom companies present in the country.
