Water Bill Hike: Now the water charges in this city have been increased by 10%, check new rate

Water Bill Hike: The per kilolitre charge for water supply connections to establishments like hotels and restaurants inside and outside Shimla Municipal Corporation limits will be Rs 116.93 for consumption up to 20 kilolitres, Rs 155.88 for 30-75 kilolitres and Rs 214.34 for consumption of more than 75 kilolitres.

Water Supply: The new financial year that started from April 1, 2025 has brought many financial troubles for the common people. After petrol and diesel becoming expensive in some states, now the cost of water has also increased. Consumers in Himachal Pradesh’s capital Shimla and its surrounding areas will have to spend more money for water consumption. In fact, Shimla Jal Management Corporation Limited (SJPNL) has increased the fee by 10 percent. The revised rates will be applicable to all consumer categories including domestic, commercial and religious institutions. Officials said on Wednesday that as per the notification issued by the government, the charges will be different for consumers inside the Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) area and outside the Shimla Municipal Corporation area.

Now you will have to pay a maintenance fee of Rs 242 every month for domestic connection

The revised water charges will be Rs 21.23 per kilo litre on 0-20 KL slab, Rs 36.61 per kilolitre on 20-30 slab and Rs 69.89 for consumption of more than 30 kilolitres for consumers inside the municipal corporation limits. The minimum maintenance charge has been increased to Rs 121 per month, while the rate for faulty meter will be Rs 488.48 per month. For consumers outside Shimla Municipal Corporation area, the charge will be Rs 48.31 for consumption up to 20 kilolitres. After this, it will be Rs 73.21 for 20-30 kilolitre slab and Rs 102.49 for more than 30 kilolitres, while the minimum maintenance charge for domestic water connection outside Shimla MC limits will be Rs 242 per month. The rate for faulty meter will be Rs 1,948.58 per month.

Charges will be different for domestic and commercial use

The per kilolitre charge for water supply connections for establishments like hotels and restaurants inside and outside Shimla Municipal Corporation limits will be Rs 116.93 for consumption up to 20 kilolitres, Rs 155.88 for 30-75 kilolitres and Rs 214.34 for consumption above 75 kilolitres. Apart from this, Rs 242 per month will be charged in case of plugged connection and Rs 8557.67 per month for faulty meter. Charges for commercial connections inside and outside Shimla Municipal Corporation limits will be Rs 58.56 for consumption up to 20 kilolitres, Rs 92.09 for 30 kilolitres, Rs 122.40 for 75 kilolitres and Rs 168.38 for above 75 kilolitres.

Now you will have to loosen your pocket for water tanker too

The revised charges for government institutions, hospitals, dharamshalas and religious places inside and outside Shimla Municipal Corporation limits will be Rs 92.25 per kilolitre and 30 per cent of the water bill will be charged as sewerage charges for all categories. Apart from this, the tanker charges for commercial and domestic consumers have been increased to Rs 1797 and Rs 1331 for a tanker of 2000 litre capacity and Rs 3593 and Rs 2662 will be charged for commercial and domestic use for a tanker of 4000 litre capacity. The revised charges for a tanker of 6000 litre capacity will be Rs 3993 for domestic use and Rs 5390.55 for commercial use, officials said.
