Will the penalty increase in the new policy?

The Ministry of Road Transport can announce the scrap policy in the next two weeks. If someone wants to renew the registration of his old car, then there is a proposal to increase his charge. There is a provision of fitness fees, green tax in the scrap policy. You will have to pay green tax for keeping an old car. Green tax can be up to 10-25% of road tax. The responsibility of implementing this policy will be on the states, while vehicle re-registration charge will increase up to 10 times.

Fitness certificate for Rs 7500 instead of 2000?
According to sources, the fitness certificate for commercial vehicles, which is currently available for Rs 2000 for a cab, will have to be paid Rs 7500, while trucks will have to pay Rs 12500. Spending such a huge amount on fitness certificate every year is a problem for people.

Will there be an incentive in the new policy?

On the other hand, vehicles older than 20 years will no longer run in the country. The government wants to remove old vehicles from the roads through the vehicle scrap policy. According to a report published in CNBC-TV18, sources said that the central government can waive the registration fee for new vehicles to boost scrapage of old vehicles. With this, states can be asked to give rebate on road tax.




Registration for new car free of charge?

The report, published in CNBC-TV18, states that people who will give away their old personal vehicles for scrap. They can be given a waiver in the registration charge on purchasing a new car. Along with the road tax exemption, the government can also ask the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to give 1 to 2 percent discount to customers who scrap vehicles. Also, the state governments can be allowed to use green tax revenue to give exemption in road tax.

When will the vehicles go into scrap?
According to the new policy, petrol engine vehicles older than 20 years and diesel engine vehicles older than 15 years, which fail in the test, will be scraped. The government will issue guidelines for setting up scraping centers and automated fitness centers.
