What happens when we block an email address ?
This will block all emails coming from that Gmail address.
All mail coming from the block Gmail address will go to the spam folder.
You will not receive any email from the block email address in your inbox.
The steps to block email on Gmail are listed below:
On Computer
- First of all, open your Gmail account.
- You can use the URL directly to open gmail: https://mail.google.com/.
- Enter your ID and password -> Click on Next button as shown below:
- Open the mail or message you want to block.
- Click on the three points on the top right corner, as shown below:
- Click on the ‘Block’ option, as shown below:
- The username will appear in double quotes (“”). The emails of the above ID are now blocked.
On Android
Open a Gmail account by logging in with an email ID and password. Or open the Gmail app.
- Open the mail or message we want to block.
- Click on the three points on the top right corner.
- Click on the ‘Block’ option as shown below:
Email with the above ID is now blocked.
- On IOS devices
- Open the Gmail app.
- Open the mail or message you want to block.
- Click on the three points on the top right corner.
- Click on the ‘Block’ option.
- The emails of the above ID are now blocked.
Unsubscribing from mass Emails
We can also unsubscribe emails that we do not need in our inbox. When we sign-up on a website that sends lots of advertisements, promotions etc., we can easily unsubscribe these emails.
Open Gmail website and login using Gmail ID and password. You can use the URL: https://mail.google.com/ to login directly. Or open the Gmail app.
- Open the mail you want to Unsubscribe.
- Go to the bottom of the page and click Unsubscribe as shown below:
- You can also click on Change Preferences options.
- If you do not find the above option in the mail, you can report the mail as spam.
Report Spam
You can use the ‘Report Spam’ option when you do not see any of the above options.
Block messages in Gmail go to the spam folder. If you receive any such mail in your inbox, we may report the mail as spam.
