Opposition parties have opposed the introduction of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amended Bill) 2021 (GNCTD Bill) and the Congress has also targeted Arvind Kejriwal besides the Central Government.
New Delhi: Opposition parties have opposed the introduction of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD Bill) in the Lok Sabha and Congress leader ManishTewari said that after its implementation in Delhi Democracy will be suppressed. With this, he said that now the Lieutenant Governor will rule Delhi aggressively through the Ministry of Home Affairs. At the same time, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has described it as an unconstitutional and undemocratic bill. Let us know that Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G. Kishan Reddy introduced the National Capital Territory Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha on Monday.
Congress sprung between Delhi and Central government
Congress leader Manish Tewari said, ‘If the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amended Bill) 2021 comes into force, then democracy in Delhi will be suppressed. If the bill is passed, the elected government of Delhi and the Legislative Assembly will be the only petitioners in the Lt. Governor’s court. Now the Lieutenant Governor will rule Delhi aggressively, that too through the Ministry of Home Affairs. At the same time, Congress leader Tariq Anwar said, ‘This bill is an attack on democracy, reducing the power of the government elected by the people is a joke of democracy. Should be challenged in the Supreme Court.
Kejriwal said unconstitutional and anti-democracy
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, ‘BJP has been rejected by the people of Delhi. First gave only eight seats to the Legislative Assembly, then did not give a single seat in the recent Municipal Corporation by-election. With this, the BJP now wants to reduce the powers of the elected government through a bill in the Lok Sabha. The Bill is contrary to the decision of the Constitution Bench. We strongly condemn the BJP’s unconstitutional and anti-democracy move. In another tweet, he said, ‘The bill says that for Delhi, the government will mean LG. All files will go to LG. Then what will the elected government do. This is against the decision of the constitution bench, which says that the files will not be sent to LG. Only a copy of the judgment will be sent to LG.
The Bill says-
1. For Delhi, “Govt” will mean LG
Then what will elected govt do?
2. All files will go to LG
This is against 4.7.18 Constitution Bench judgement which said that files will not be sent to LG, elected govt will take all decisions and send copy of decision to LG https://t.co/beY4SDOTYI

Will Kejriwal sit on this issue as well: Congress leader
Along with opposing the National Capital Delhi Territory (Amendment) Bill 2021, the Congress also targeted Arvind Kejriwal. Former Congress MLA Anil Bhardwaj said, ‘The BJP government was formed for the first time in 1993. Madanlal Khurana said that the provision of Delhi without rights has been made in the law. The then Congress government of that time amended and gave rights to Delhi. Today we can call it a black date. He further said, ‘When the Cabinet approved this bill in February, why did Kejriwal talk to the Home Minister on this issue? Will Arvind Kejriwal, who staged a sit-in on every trivial matter, will picket on this issue as well?
‘People will lose faith in the constitution when the bill is implemented’
AAP leader Sanjay Singh said, ‘They have no faith in democracy. There is no faith in the elected government. In the case of Delhi, the central government worked to teach a lesson that the government which came with a strong majority has no meaning. The decision of the Constitution Bench on the one hand. People’s decision on the other side. Bypassing these two, taking such a step to strengthen the Lieutenant Governor – is a non-constitutional bill. This bill should not be passed, otherwise people will lose faith in the constitution in the court.
