For how long can you update Aadhaar for free?
Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has provided the facility to update Aadhaar cards made more than 10 years ago for free and its deadline has been extended several times. Last March also, the last date for using this service for free was extended from March 14 to June 14, 2024. In such a situation, if you want to update any information in your Aadhaar Card (Aadhaar Card Update), then you can still do it without paying any fee.

Updating Aadhaar Card for Free: After this fixed deadline (Aadhaar Update Deadline), you will have to pay money to do this important work. The special thing is that this free service of updating Aadhaar card provided by UIDAI is available only on myAadhaar Portal. While extending the deadline of this service, UIDAI had said through social media that people are being encouraged to update the documents in their Aadhaar. It is noteworthy that the deadline for Free Aadhaar Update was first extended from 14 December 2023 to 14 March 2024, after which it was decided to extend it again for three months i.e. till 14 June.
How will online details be updated?
- First of all, log in to the official website of UIDAI https://uidai.gov.in/.
- Now go to My Aadhaar Portal on the homepage
- Log in using the OTP received on Aadhaar number and registered mobile number.
- After this, check your details and if the details are correct then tick the correct box.
- If demographic information is found incorrect, select the identity document from the drop-down menu and upload the document.
- This document can be uploaded in the form of JPEG, PNG and PDF.
This service is free on online portal
It is noteworthy that this service of free updating of Aadhaar card is being provided only on myAadhaar portal. Those who want to upload this information by visiting Aadhaar or CSC centres, they will have to pay a fee of Rs 50 to update their details. Let us tell you that UIDAI is asking citizens to submit proof of identity and proof of address documents to re-validate their demographic information, so that people can get better facilities.
