Bhuvnesh Kumar said that the age verification process can be enhanced by using Aadhaar while maintaining the privacy of an individual.
Aadhaar card: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is considering making major changes to the Aadhaar card. UIDAI is considering issuing Aadhaar cards with just a photo and a QR code to prevent misuse of the card and eliminate offline verification using Aadhaar details. Speaking at an open online conference on a new Aadhaar app, UIDAI Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bhuvnesh Kumar said the authority is considering introducing a new rule in December to discourage offline verification by entities such as hotels, event organizers, and others.
What the Aadhaar Act Says
Bhuvnesh Kumar said that age verification using Aadhaar can be enhanced while maintaining a person’s privacy. Kumar said, “We are considering why any additional details are needed on the card. It should only contain a photo and a QR code. If we print more information, people will believe that, and those who know how to misuse it will continue to do so.” The Aadhaar Act states that an individual’s Aadhaar number or biometric details cannot be collected, used, or stored for offline verification purposes. However, many organizations collect and store photocopies of Aadhaar cards.
UIDAI Launches New Mobile App
UIDAI recently launched a new mobile app for Aadhaar, e-Aadhaar. The e-Aadhaar app offers numerous features to keep your Aadhaar secure. This app allows you to completely hide your Aadhaar details. Additionally, you can lock or unlock the biometric details of your digital Aadhaar card. Furthermore, you can also hide your Aadhaar number. Many types of fraud can be perpetrated using the Aadhaar card. This is why UIDAI is very serious about Aadhaar security and periodically monitors the security of Aadhaar as needed.
