UIDAI has given a very good and simple option ‘Aadhaar Services through SMS’. With this service, users can avail services related to Aadhaar such as generation or retrieval of virtual ID, locking or unlocking their Aadhaar, biometric locking and unlocking.
New Delhi: UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority) was the basis of the (Aadhaar) to start some services linked that you can access via SMS. This is especially useful for those Aadhaar card holders who do not have access to internet, UIDAI website or m-Aadhaar app. Even people with feature phones, that is, without internet connectivity, can also take advantage of these services. UIDAI has given a very good and simple option for Aadhar card holders ‘Aadhaar Services through SMS’.
With this service, users can avail various services related to Aadhaar such as generation or retrieval of Virtual ID (VID), locking or unlocking their Aadhaar, biometric locking and unlocking. For which you have to send an SMS from your registered mobile number to the helpline number (1947).
How to generate virtual id
- To generate Virtual ID, you have to go to the create message of your mobile and enter GVID (SPACE) and the last 4 digits of your Aadhaar number. After this send SMS to 1947.
- To get your VID, type RVID (SPACE) and enter the last four digits of your Aadhaar number.
- You can get OTP in two ways. First through your Aadhaar number, second through your VID.
- For Aadhaar to OTP type- GETOTP (space) and enter the last four digits of your Aadhaar.
- For VID to OTP type – GETOTP (space) and last 6 digits of your official virtual ID in SMS.
How to Lock and UNLOCK Aadhaar through SMS:
Locking
To lock your Aadhaar, you need to have a VID and then the locking process can be done through two step SMS method.
Step 1: In the first SMS, go to TEXT and enter GETOTP (SPACE) and the last four digits of your Aadhaar number.
Step 2: The second SMS should be sent immediately after receiving the OTP. Write it like this LOCKUID (SPACE) Enter the last 4 digits of your Aadhaar (SPACE) 6 digit OTP.
