However, Aadhaar will not be made compulsory for the supply of services under various social security schemes under the purview of the ministry. Because the Social Security Code 2020 has not yet been fully implemented.
The rules under the code have been finalized, but have not been notified yet. The objective of this right given to the Ministry is to facilitate the preparation of data of workers working mainly in the unorganized sector, including migrant laborers.
Labor Secretary Apoorva Chandra said, now we will start asking for Aadhaar numbers from the beneficiaries under the Social Security Code. This is necessary for our database for unorganized sector workers, including migrant laborers. However, there will be no reduction in delivery of various social security schemes if Aadhaar is not provided.
The notification was issued on 3 May
In this context, the Ministry issued a notification on 3 May. Under this, the Ministry of Labor and Employment and the body under it will be able to get the details of Aadhaar of beneficiaries for its database under various social security schemes.
The code was passed by the parliament last year. According to the notification, Section 144 of the Social Security Code -2020 covering the relevance of Aadhaar has been notified. This provision has come into force from May 3, 2021.
Employees will be identified through Aadhaar
Under this section, arrangements have been made to identify employees through Aadhaar for availing benefits and services under the code. Union Labor and Employment Minister Santosh Gangwar said in a statement that under the Social Security Code this section has been notified to collect the database of other workers including migrant laborers. In the absence of Aadhaar, no laborers will be denied government benefits.
