The Indonesian ministry has proposed to issue free entry visas to travelers from 20 countries including India. The Tourism Ministry of Indonesia has also taken this decision to increase tourists in the country. Actually, the government’s goal is to strengthen the economy of the country with the large number of tourists coming. “The ministry has proposed the 20 countries with the highest (number) of foreign tourists, excluding countries with existing visa exemptions,” Indonesia’s Tourism Minister Sandiaga Salauddin Uno said.
Objective of strengthening the economy
He said that the provision of free entry visa in 20 countries is expected to increase foreign tourist travel, which will have a manifold impact on the country’s economy. He said that this will also boost domestic consumption, attract investment and support the development of digital economy. “We are targeting quality tourists, especially long-stay tourists who spend more in the local economy,” he said.
Along with India, the names of these countries are also being considered.
Among the 20 countries from which the Indonesian Ministry has proposed to issue free entry visas to travelers including India, Australia, China, South Korea, United States of America, United Kingdom, France, Germany and others are included. Currently, 25 countries are providing visa-free entry to Indians. Recently, Malaysia, Thailand and Sri Lanka have announced to provide visa free entry to Indian citizens.
According to official figures, more than 16 million foreigners came to Indonesia in 2019, before the Corona pandemic. At the same time, from January to October this year, 9.49 million foreign tourists came to Indonesia. If it is compared with the same period last year, the number of tourists has increased by about 124 percent.
