Air Fare: The earthquake in the aviation sector is not showing any sign of stopping. Go First Airline went bankrupt. After that, SpiceJet faced setbacks, now the difficulties of Vistara Airline are increasing before the merger. There has been a big increase in air fares since the cancellation of Vistara Airlines flights. Rates of flight tickets have increased by 20 to 25 percent.

Air travel becomes expensive

Due to cancellation of flights and increased demand for travel, air fares have increased by 20 to 25 percent; passengers will have to pay more for domestic flights this summer. Due to cancellation of Vistara Airlines flights and strong passenger demand, air fares have already increased by 20-25 percent. According to experts, the demand for air travel is high every year during the summer season, but this year the aviation industry is facing many challenges in increasing the capacity as per the demand. It is even using larger aircraft on domestic routes. During this period, air fares have already increased due to the cancellation of more than a hundred flights of Tata Group’s Vistara airline.

Facing the anger of the pilots, the airline has reduced its total capacity by 25-30 flights per day i.e. by 10 percent. An analysis by travel website Ixigo showed that fares on some airlines climbed as much as 39 percent in the period from April 1 to 7 compared to the period from March 1 to 7. One-way fares for Delhi-Bengaluru flights increased by 39 per cent during this period, while for Delhi-Srinagar flights it saw an increase of 30 per cent. According to the analysis, the fare increase was 12 percent in case of Delhi-Mumbai flight services and eight percent in case of Mumbai-Delhi services.

Bharat Malik, senior vice president (aircraft and hotel business), travel portal Yatra Online, said the average airfares are expected to increase between 20-25 per cent in the current summer flight schedule, covering both domestic and international routes. Malik said Vistara’s decision to cut flights by 10 per cent has affected ticket prices on major domestic routes. We have seen a significant increase in fares. Prices on major routes like Delhi-Goa, Delhi-Kochi, Delhi-Jammu and Delhi-Srinagar have increased by about 20-25 percent. He said that one of the main reasons for high airfares is reduction in flight operations by Vistara. Apart from this, increasing demand for summer travel along with rising fuel costs has also played a role in increasing fares. Jagan Narayan Padmanabhan, senior director and global head (transport and logistics) at CRISIL Market Intelligence and Analytics, said fares are expected to increase by five-seven per cent as the peak season approaches. Most of the travels will be for personal reasons and with family, so it is expected to have a substantial impact. In such a situation, people can choose the option of rail travel for short distances.
