Digi Yatra: A rapid increase is being seen in the number of passengers traveling by air in the country. Digi Yatra is expected to start at 14 more airports this month. Information regarding this has come to light and a top official has given positive information about this. Giving this information, an official said that efforts are underway to make this facility more user friendly with some changes in the structure, after which Digi Yatra is likely to be started at 14 more airports by the end of this month.
Based on Facial Recognition Technology (FRT), Digi Yatra provides contactless, seamless movement of passengers at various security points of the airports. At present it has about 50 lakh users in the country. This facility is now available at 14 airports for domestic passengers and discussions are underway with several relevant stakeholders to make it available for international passengers as well.
At which 14 new airports the facility will start soon?
The 14 new airports where this facility is to be launched soon are Bagdogra, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Dabolim, Indore, Mangalore, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram and Visakhapatnam.
What does the CEO of Digi Yatra have to say?
While Digi Yatra is slowly gaining momentum, various concerns have been raised regarding the details of passengers or their personal information and privacy. However, Digi Yatra Foundation Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Suresh Khadakbhavi told PTI that Digi Yatra is expected to be available at 14 more airports by the end of April. Trying to allay the concerns, Khadakbhavi said that Digi Yatra does not have data or details of any passenger. He said, “The data remains only in (the user’s) phone and it is under the control of the passenger.”
Khadakbhavi said that work is being done to ensure a more user-friendly experience for the users in Digi Yatra. Overall, attention is being given to changing the entire structure or format. On providing facilities for international travel, he said that discussions are going on with the Ministry of External Affairs and other agencies. The Foundation, a non-profit organization, is the nodal agency for Digi Yatra, which was launched in December 2022.

The shareholders of the Foundation include Airport Authority of India (AAI), Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL), Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), Hyderabad International Airport Limited (HIAL) and Mumbai International Airport.
