The effect of TRAI’s order has started showing. Telecom companies Airtel, Jio and Vi have published their 5G, 4G and 2G coverage maps on the website and apps. The telecom regulator had recently instructed telecom companies to publish network coverage maps on their websites and apps, so that users do not face any problem in choosing an operator.

Help will be provided in choosing an operator

According to the rules of MNP, mobile users can port their number to another operator only after 90 days of buying a new SIM. While buying a SIM, users did not know which telecom operator’s network is good in their area and which is not. In view of this problem of the users, the telecom regulator had recently instructed telecom companies to publish a detailed map of their network coverage on the website or app.

TRAI had revised the landline, mobile and broadband service quality norms in August last year. The telecom regulator had ordered telecom operators to publish geospatial network coverage maps on the website. Users will know where wireless voice or broadband service is available in this map.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has posted a picture of the coverage map published by telecom operators from its official X handle so that users can know that now they will be able to check the coverage map before choosing an operator. After this order, 120 crore mobile users of the country have heaved a sigh of relief. Existing users will be able to take the help of coverage map in choosing a new telecom operator.

Relief to 120 crore users

TRAI has said in its statement that publishing coverage maps by telecom service providers will maintain transparency between consumers and TSP. Telecom companies have published coverage maps on websites and apps as per TRAI’s order. Government telecom companies BSNL has also published its network coverage map.
