Aishwarya Rai was crowned Miss World in 1994 and became the second Indian after Rita Faria in 1966 to win the title.
She became internationally known after winning the crown and later pursued a career in both Bollywood and Hollywood films.
The former beauty queen has spoken out about certain aspects of the competition which made her ‘uncomfortable’.
She did not consider it necessary for the contestants to wear bikinis and swimsuits to win the title.
In an old press conference from 2017, Aishwarya shared her feelings on the swimwear round in the competition.
She also shared that she had spoken to the tournament organizers to remove it completely.
She said, ‘After my pageant in 1994, they canceled that round only after that year in 1995 because I said it was not comfortable.’
Eventually, the ‘Miss World Team’ dropped the swimsuit round in 2014 to focus more on ‘brains and personality’ rather than just physical beauty.
