Russia birth rate incentive: India is worried about the increasing population, while there are some countries in the world where the future of the country is in danger due to the falling birth rate. These countries are offering various incentives to the citizens to have children. Russia has come up with a strange scheme to increase the population.
Incentive for girl students to have children
In Karelia, Russia, the local administration has offered a handsome amount of money to female students in exchange for giving birth to children. Here, if college-university girls under the age of 25 give birth to a healthy child, they will be given 100,000 rubles (about 81,000 rupees).
Attempts to stop falling birth rate
According to a report by The Moscow Times, this policy has been implemented to improve the country’s falling birth rate. This scheme has come into effect from January 1. If the child is born dead, the girl will not get the money mentioned in the scheme.
Lots of confusion in the plan
What will be the status of payment if the child dies suddenly after birth? What will happen if the child is born with some disability? There are many such questions about which confusion still remains. Many such schemes are being run in Russia to increase the birth rate. But experts have described many of these as inadequate and lacking foresight.
Only 5 lakh children born in 6 months
In Russia, only 5,99,600 children were born in the first 6 months of 2024, which is the lowest in the last 25 years. In the month of June, the birth rate historically fell below 100,000.
A big crisis for the country
According to a Fortune report, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in July that this is disastrous for the country’s future. Russia’s population started declining in 1990. If the situation remains the same, then Russia will face a serious crisis of population decline.
