Meanwhile, artificial rain was made to stop the increasing pollution in Gurugram, Haryana. DLF Primus Housing Complex located in Sector-82 has started the experiment of ‘artificial rain’ in its premises, in which firefighting systems installed on high-rise buildings are being used to control dust and other harmful particles.
At DLF Primus, water was sprayed from all 32 floors of the building through sprinklers and pipes to control dust and other small particles in the air that can harm the health of children and the elderly.
Achal Yadav, president of the Resident Welfare Association (RWA) of the complex, said that this step has been taken keeping in mind the health of the residents, as the government alone cannot control pollution. Yadav says that if the AQI remains very bad, then they can do this artificial rain daily.
Artificial rain in Gurugram
DLF Primus has not just introduced artificial rain, but has also taken other measures to tackle pollution. The complex has introduced a carpool service for residents travelling to areas like Cyber City in Gurugram and Delhi. This will not only reduce pollution but also bring some control on traffic.

The science behind artificial rain
Usually, artificial rain or ‘cloud seeding’ is done to enhance natural rainfall. It involves using things like silver iodide or dry ice in the atmosphere to induce rainfall. However, the technique being used in Gurugram is slightly different, wherein water is simply being sprayed from buildings using water sprinklers to prevent dust from rising into the air.
Delhi’s Environment Minister Gopal Rai also recently said that the government is considering adopting artificial rain as a measure to fight pollution. This makes it clear that if such unique measures are successful, other housing complexes may also adopt this technology in the future.
