Assam Assembly Elections: Congress released list of names of 26 candidates of second phase

Assam Assembly Elections: The Congress-led grand alliance in Assam includes AIUDF, BPF, CPI-M, CPI and Zonal Gan Morcha. Polling will be held in 126 phases for the 126-member assembly seats in the state on 27 March, 1 April and 6 April.

Guwahati. The Congress has released the list of candidates for the second phase of the Assam Assembly Elections. There are 26 candidates in the list released by the Congress. Congress has given ticket to Tamal Kanti Banik from Silchar seat while Congress has given ticket to Pradyut Kumar Bhuyan from Nalbari.




The Congress had released the first list of 40 candidates for the Assam Assembly elections on Saturday and the second list of three candidates on Sunday. In the first list, the names of its state unit president Ripun Bora and Leader of Opposition in the assembly Devbrata Saikia were prominent.

Three days before this, the Congress has released the first list of 40 candidates for the assembly elections to be held in Assam on Saturday. According to the old list, half of them are new. The party will consult the family of former Chief Minister late Tarun Gogoi before finalizing the candidate’s name on the state’s Titabor assembly seat. Gogoi was elected MLA for four consecutive terms from this seat.

The party has 20 new faces and six sitting MLAs in its first list. These include the name of Debbrata Saikia, the Nata of the Congress Legislature Party, who has been nominated from Najira.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is eyeing the prestigious Titabor seat while the Congress wants to retain its seat. Tarun Gogoi, who had been the chief minister of the state three times, was an MLA from this seat. He died on November 23 last year due to complications following Kovid.

Congress appointed supervisor

The Congress on Wednesday appointed its senior leaders Mohan Prakash and Jaydev Jena as observers for the Assam assembly elections. Congress President Sonia Gandhi approved the proposal to appoint Prakash and Jena as supervisors of the All India Congress Committee for the Assam elections, according to a statement issued by the party’s general secretary KC Venugopal.
