IMD Weather Update April: Heat wave continues to wreak havoc in some states of the country. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘red alert’ for Odisha and West Bengal. At the same time, ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued for Bihar and Jharkhand and ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued for Eastern Uttar Pradesh as well as northern parts of Kerala. People have been appealed not to leave their homes in the afternoon in this scorching heat.
According to the Meteorological Department, due to the current heat, the maximum day time temperature is likely to increase further in West Bengal and Odisha. With this, the situation of heatwave can become more serious. Senior IMD scientist Soma Sen Roy told news agency ANI, “Odisha is also facing severe heat conditions. Although there is a little relief compared to West Bengal. Despite this, a red alert has been issued.”
Panagarh in Bengal’s Bardhaman district recorded the highest temperature of 44.6 degrees Celsius on Saturday. At the same time, the maximum temperature recorded during the day in Kolkata was 41.1 degrees Celsius. The situation was similar in Medinipur (43.5), Bankura (43.2), Barrackpur (43.2), Bardhaman (43), Asansol (42.5), Purulia (42.7) and Sriniketan (42).
The temperature in Odisha’s industrial town Angul was recorded at 44.7 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Bhubaneswar was recorded at 44.6 degrees Celsius. For the first time this season the temperature crossed the 44 degree mark. The maximum temperature recorded in Baripada was 44.2 degrees Celsius. Cities like Boudh, Dhenkanal and Bhawanipatna recorded a maximum temperature of 43.7 degrees Celsius on Saturday.
The weather office has predicted an increase of one to two degrees centigrade in the day temperature in the next three days and after that there will be no major change in the next two days.
How will the weather be in Delhi-NCR?
After the rain on Friday, the people of Delhi-NCR have got some respite from the scorching heat. On Saturday, the maximum temperature of the capital dropped from 40.5 degrees Celsius to 38 degrees Celsius. IMD predicts that Sunday will also be partly cloudy. By Monday the maximum temperature will again cross 40 degrees Celsius.
Rain alert in these states
IMD has predicted light rain with thunderstorm in Jammu and Kashmir and Tamil Nadu on Sunday. The IMD has also predicted rain and lightning over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha region of Maharashtra and North Telangana today. Light rain with thunderstorms has also been predicted over the northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, East Meghalaya, Nagaland and Manipur on Sunday.
Besides, intermittent rain with thunderstorm and hailstorm occurred over many parts of Himachal Pradesh. There has been snowfall in many areas. More than 60 roads, including Atal Tunnel-Rohtang Pass, Gramphu-Losar and Darcha-Sarchu, were closed for traffic amid the snowfall. The local IMD office has issued an orange alert for heavy rain and storm accompanied by hail and strong winds on Monday. Thunderstorm accompanied by hailstorm and strong winds has been predicted at isolated places in the hilly state from Sunday to Tuesday.
