Samsung has released a list of compatible devices and a list of phones that are not getting any updates, which has revealed that some of the company’s old popular smartphones will not be given security updates.
Tech giant Samsung (Samsung) has started showing a boom in software update. Samsung had promised last year that it would release Android OS updates for at least 3 years in most of its smartphones. Now Samsung has also released a list of compatible devices and a list of phones that are not getting any updates. According to the Android Police report, Samsung will not give security updates to some of its old popular smartphones. The company said that security updates include Galaxy J3 Pop, (Samsung Galaxy J3 Pop) Galaxy A5 2017, (Galaxy A5 2017) Galaxy A3 2017, (Galaxy A3 2017) and Galaxy A7 2017 (Galaxy A7 2017).
The report also mentions the Galaxy Fold 5G. However, on Samsung’s official website, the foldable phone is in the list of existing security updates.
It has been reported in the report that Samsung has downgraded the Galaxy A8 2018, now this phone will be given quarterly update instead of monthly. Samsung’s latest smartphones Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 + and Galaxy S21 + Ultra have been shifted to monthly updates. Samsung’s Galaxy A02 and Galaxy M12 have been added to the list of Quartly updates.
Samsung has improved the time of release of its software updates. Recently, the company introduced OneUI 3 based on Android 11 months before the schedule.
The update also includes the security patch for December 2020. In addition, the company’s budget smartphones Galaxy M21 and Galaxy F41 have also been updated from Android 11. This was done ten days after the Galaxy M31 update of the M-series.
