Bank Employees 5 Days Working: All banks are closed on Thursday due to Independence Day on 15th August. After 15th August, regular work will be done in banks on 16th and 17th August i.e. Friday and Saturday. This time bank employees have not got a long weekend. Only corporate employees have got a long weekend. In such a situation, most of the bank employees are wondering when will they get 5 days working? Bank employees have been demanding five days working for a long time. It is expected that the government can fulfill their demand by this month.

When will banks start working for 5 days?

An agreement has been signed between the Indian Banks Association (IBA) and employee unions regarding 2 days leave in a week for bank employees. Now this agreement is yet to get the approval of the government. It is believed that the government may announce 5 days working at the end of the year 2024 i.e. in December. If this happens, banks will open only for five days a week i.e. from Monday to Friday. As of now banks remain closed on all Sundays, second and fourth Saturdays only.

Will the government approve by this month?

Expectations of a 5-day working week for bank employees have increased. In December 2023, an agreement was signed between the Indian Banks Association (IBA) and bank unions regarding this proposal, which included both public and private banks. Under this agreement, the framework of a 5-day working week in the banking sector was fixed, which is subject to government approval. In March 2024, the IBA and bank unions signed the 9th joint note, which included 5-day working with Saturday and Sunday off. Now this proposal is awaiting government approval.

5-day working will be implemented from this month?

According to sources, the government may give its approval to this proposal by the end of this month or early 2025. If this proposal is approved, Saturdays will also be recognized as official holidays. Along with this, the issue will also be discussed with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), as it regulates the banking hours and internal functioning.

This will be the new time for opening and closing of bank branches?

According to reports, if the government approves this proposal, banking hours can be increased by 40 minutes. This will keep bank branches open from 9:45 am to 5:30 pm. Currently, most banks open till 10 am. Public dealing takes place till 4 pm. Banks are closed on second and fourth Saturdays, but if this new rule comes into effect, all Saturdays can be declared holidays. Bank employees and unions have long demanded a 5-day working week, and now they hope that the government will soon take a final decision on this, which will start a new chapter in the banking sector.
