Eid-e-Milad Bank Holiday: RBI has said that there will be no transactions and settlements in government securities, foreign exchange, money market and rupee interest rate derivatives on September 18, 2024. RBI offices in Mumbai and Mumbai Suburban will now be closed on September 18 instead of September 16. Only bank branches remain closed on bank holidays. Internet banking or mobile banking work continues as usual
The Maharashtra government has postponed the Eid-e-Milad holiday in Mumbai. In view of the Ganesh immersion on Anant Chaturdashi on September 17, local leaders of the Muslim community had requested the state government regarding this. Therefore, now Eid-e-Milad holiday in Mumbai will be on September 18 instead of September 16. After this decision of the Maharashtra government, the Reserve Bank of India has also issued a statement saying that its offices in Mumbai and Mumbai Suburban will now be closed on September 18 instead of September 16.
RBI has said that there will be no transactions and settlements in government securities, foreign exchange, money market and rupee interest rate derivatives on September 18, 2024. Settlement of all outstanding transactions on September 18 will be postponed till the next working day i.e. September 19, 2024. Now government securities, foreign exchange, money market and rupee interest rate derivatives market will be operational on September 16.
Banks in Mumbai will remain closed on September 18
After this development, the Eid-e-Milad holiday in Mumbai banks will be on September 18 instead of September 16. Eid-e-Milad is also known as Milad-un-Nabi and Barawafat. This day is the birthday of Prophet Muhammad.
Banks are also closed in Sikkim on September 18 due to Pang Lhabsol Festival. Every year this festival is celebrated to pay respect and please the guardian deities of Sikkim, especially Mount Kanchenjunga. Apart from this, it is also celebrated in memory of the treaty of brotherhood between Lepcha and Bhutia and is a symbol of unity of Sikkimese.

Banks will be closed in Gujarat, Mizoram, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Delhi, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand on 16 September on Eid-e-Milad.

Two categories of holidays
