Bank Holidays: Banks will remain closed for these many days on Diwali and Chhath, check the list of holidays

Bank Holidays on Diwali: Before Diwali, banks will remain closed across the country on October 26 due to the fourth Saturday of the month and Sunday on October 27. Some bank holidays are under the ‘national holiday’ category and some holidays/festivals are related to a particular state or region. Online or internet banking, mobile banking, UPI service remains operational during holidays.

Bank Holiday: Diwali is one of the biggest festivals of the country and it is considered a public holiday. Due to this, like offices and many other institutions, banks are also closed on the occasion of Diwali. And not only on Diwali but also on the Chhath festival that comes after it, banks are closed in many places. Let us know on which day and when banks will be closed due to Diwali and Chhath this year…

31 October: Diwali (Deepawali)/Kali Puja/Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s Birthday/Narak Chaturdashi – Banks closed in the rest of the country except Tripura, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Manipur, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Jammu and Kashmir

1 November: Diwali Amavasya (Lakshmi Puja)/Deepawali/Kut/Kannada Rajyotsava – Banks closed in Tripura, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Meghalaya

2 November: Diwali (Bali Pratipada)/Balipadmi/Lakshmi Puja (Deepawali)/Govardhan Puja/Vikram Samvat New Year Day—Banks closed in Gujarat, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra

7 November: Chhath (Evening Arghya)- Banks closed in West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand

8 November: Chhath (Morning Arghya)/Vangala Festival- Banks closed in Bihar, Jharkhand, Meghalaya

Before Diwali, banks will remain closed across the country on 26 October due to the fourth Saturday of the month and 27 October due to Sunday.

Two categories of holidays

Bank customers should remember that some bank holidays are under the ‘National Holiday’ category and some holidays/festivals are related to a particular state or region. On holidays related to a particular region, only the banks of that particular state or region remain closed. Therefore, bank customers should go to the bank only after checking the bank holiday list and finish their work on time.
