Banks will remain closed in Meghalaya on 18 December due to the death anniversary of U Soso Tham. Born in 1873 in Sohra or Cherrapunji, Meghalaya, U Soso Tham was a poet. He was the first poet to start secular literature with unique and real vocabulary. He was also the first person to use Khasi idioms in a form borrowed mainly from English poetry. U Soso Tham is mainly remembered for his beautiful poems. 18 December is a public holiday in Meghalaya State. Due to this, there will be no work in all government offices here on this day. Banks will remain open on this day in other states except Meghalaya.

There will be a bank holiday in Goa on 19 December. According to the list of RBI, banks will be closed in the capital Panaji. This is due to Goa Liberation Day. Goa, Daman and Diu Liberation Day is celebrated every year on 19 December in Goa. According to Wikipedia, Goa Liberation Day is celebrated in memory of the capture of Portuguese-ruled Goa by the Indian Armed Forces in 1961, after which India was freed from any European rule. Usually the list of bank holidays is issued by RBI across the country.

Apart from the above holidays, banks are also closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. The fifth Saturday of a month with five Saturdays is a working day for the bank. Earlier, banks used to open only for half a day on Saturdays.
