Bank employees union has called for a nationwide strike today. Many banking unions have supported the strike. This strike has been called to protest against the chargesheet against 13 officials of the Bank of India Staff Union-Kerala.
New Delhi: Today there is a nationwide strike of banks. All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) has called for this strike. Banking services and transactions are expected to be affected due to this strike. AIBEA has called this strike to protest against the chargesheet on 13 officials of Bank of India Staff Union-Kerala. Apart from AIBEA, five other bank unions are also participating in it. These include United Forum of Bank Unions, All India Bank Officers Confederation, National Confederation of Bank Employees, Bank Employees Federation of India and All India Bank Officers Association.
AIBEA General Secretary CH Venkatachalam has issued a press release about today’s strike and its demands from the government. He said in a post on X that this strike has been called in protest against the political attack on the trade union. Many banking unions have supported it. Venkatachalam said that out of the employees who have been chargesheeted, four have served in the army. Three people had participated in the Kargil war. However, no information has been received from the government about this strike. Therefore, before going to the bank branch, customers should find out whether the bank is open or not.
Union’s allegation
Bank of India had chargesheeted 13 office bearers of Bank of India Staff Union-Kerala. These people had participated in a conference of Bank of India Staff Union-Kerala. AIBEA says that this is political interference in the functioning of the union and a political attack on it. It says that its aim is to weaken the union in the banking industry in the name of national security.
