Bank Holiday Today: If you have any important bank related work today on Thursday, 23 January, then there may be important news for you. Actually, many people are confused whether the banks are closed today or not. Let us tell you that today on 23 January, all banks including private and public will be closed on the occasion of Veer Surendra Sai Jayanti and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s birthday. However, this closure is not applicable to banks across the country. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) calendar, today banks will be closed only in West Bengal, Odisha and Tripura. Let us tell you that in 2021, the Government of India formally suggested that January 23 be celebrated as Parakram Diwas.

What is the detail

Let us tell you that RBI decides the bank holidays based on various rules including Negotiable Instruments Act and RTGS holidays. Bank holidays in India vary from state to state as they often depend on local celebrations and customs. However, all banks, scheduled and non-scheduled alike, observe holidays on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. Interestingly, banks are also open on the fifth Saturday of the month.

Online banking services will remain normal

During Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) holidays, physical bank branches may be closed, but online banking services will remain operational. Customers can use net banking, mobile banking and UPI services without any interruption. Please note that cash availability in ATMs may be limited due to the holidays. Customers should verify that their online banking services are active and linked to their registered mobile numbers to ensure a smooth transaction process.
