Benefits of Participating in Olympiads

Olympiads by themselves can be bracketed as competitive exams that are conducted across schools in different cities to test the educational strengths of students in various subjects like Science, Mathematics, English, etc. These exams are hosted by different organizations across the world both at the national and international level and are also conducted separately for students from each grade across class 1 to class 12.

They are aimed at motivating students to perform better and assess their interest in specific subjects apart from the ones learned at the school level. They incentivize young students of different ages to understand the concepts to the fullest extent and look beyond what the regular syllabus has to offer. Olympiads serve as a platform for students to help them in their overall development concerning their academic life and also support their cognitive development on some level. They motivate students to endeavor for a better and deeper understanding of scientific facts to enhance their reasoning, analytical and problem-solving skills. They also help in pinpointing the areas the learners lack proficiency in so that a proper orientation can be given to improve in that area.

It enhances the students’ logical reasoning, scientific ability, and the students’ learning capacity and further boosts them to improve their problem-solving skills and analytical ability. Unlike the regular exams that the students are more used to, these exams demand to extract a higher potential from those who are willing to take it and the learners tend to get rewarding results when they have excelled in them. Generally, a lot of pride is associated with winning Olympiads and therefore a huge level of competition comes along with it which ultimately increases the competitive spirit in students.

They are majorly held in Science- International Science Olympiad (IS0), Mathematics – International Maths Olympiad (IMO), English – International English Olympiad (IEO), and Social Studies – National Social Studies Olympiad (NSSO). Since they are available in different fields and subjects, students can test their aptitude in each and understand their strengths and weaknesses accordingly.

As these olympiads start from an early age, that is, 1st grade it helps the students identify update themselves with the knowledge at each level following syllabus demands  throughout the entire course. Unlike the regular school exams, these are not mandatory for all students and therefore it is entirely up to the students to choose to attempt them according to their interest level. This ensures that there is less pressure associated with it for scoring marks to continue their education in any capacity. But the exposure that these exams guarantee is one of the many highlights of them that attracts most students and parents towards registering and attending them continuously without fail.

Olympiads help in tapping the individual potential of students along with helping identify the extra talents that young students may possess in any of the subjects in particular. They test the IQ, critical thinking level and also enhance the capacity of students to think rationally and help refine their reasoning levels from a very young age itself. Throughout the preparation for the exams, students learn to explore their interest in participation in various competitive exams and discover their educational and intellectual skills. Students' performance in school improves eventually as these Olympiads sharpen their thinking and learning process which further helps them to grasp the concepts taught in schools better.

There are a variety of olympiads that are present today and the students can register for any of these olympiads according to their wants. Each of these olympiads has a different approach to the exams and tries to bring in special and unique patterns of examination. The question papers they adopt have a variety of sections that are aimed to test the different capabilities of students.

These sections include logical reasoning, subject-wise topics, etc. and they analyze various skills that the students have within themselves.

One of the most essential steps to conquer any kind of exam is to resort to solving questions of different types. Although this step comes only after the students have fully understood the concepts mentioned under the syllabus prescribed, its significance exceeds a lot of other steps involved. In conditions where it becomes difficult and almost impossible for students to access printed materials and workbooks as such, these online resources come to the forefront and make it easier for students to learn. Solving Olympiad question papers help students to get acquainted with the syllabus of the school curriculum too as the portions are mostly similar.

The students are made to think deeply about any given problem within the questions in the exam and form a solution that best suits the problem. They prepare young children for future competitive exams that might decide their future in some way by testing a student's aptitude as well as the knowledge of all the important subjects under the syllabus which means it goes a long way to improve the overall performance of the students even at their academics and other related examinations.
