An interim budget was presented in the Bengal Legislative Assembly on Friday in Bengal. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee presented the interim budget in the Assembly due to deteriorating health of Finance Minister Amit Mitra.

Highlights of budget
– Bengal’s gross state domestic product increased by 2.7 times
State Plan expenditure increased 7.2 times
100 new English medium schools will be opened for scheduled castes / tribes and the poor.
500 new schools with unique language will be opened and 1500 para teachers will be appointed there
Announcement of opening of 100 new schools in Nepali, Hindi, Urdu, Kamatapuri and Kurmali languages
100 new schools to be opened in Chai Bagan areas.
50 crore grant to government aided madrasas
20 lakh houses to be constructed for scheduled castes / tribes
10 million new volunteer groups to be formed under the Matr Vandana scheme
About 45 lakh migrant laborers will be given a lump sum grant of Rs 1,000 under the ‘Uniform Social Security Scheme’.
– Azad Hind Memorial to be constructed in Newtown on 150th birth anniversary of Netaji
Jai Hind Bhavan will be constructed in Harike district
