A concession agreement was signed today to hand over the management of the Guwahati, Jaipur and Trivandrum airports to the Adani Group. With this, the process of handing over six airports to the Adani Group under the first phase of privatization of airports has been completed.
Signed three different agreements
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) today signed three separate agreements with Adani Guwahati International Airport Limited, Adani Jaipur International Airport Limited and Adani Thiruvananthapuram International Airport Limited here. All three are units of Adani Airport Limited. In the presence of the Chairman of the Authority, Arvind Singh, AAI Executive Director N.V. Subbarayudu and Adani Airport Limited Chief Executive Officer Behnad Jandi signed these agreements.
The management of airports will be assigned to the Adani Group for the next 50 years
The management of the three airports will be handed over to the Adani Group for the next 50 years within 180 days of the concession agreement. The first phase saw bids for the privatization of six airports. All six airports were to be allocated to the Adani Group. Of these, Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Mangaluru airports have already been handed over to the company.
The amount received as concession fee will be used to develop other small airports.
The Adani Group will pay Rs 160 per domestic passenger at Guwahati airport and Rs 320 per international passenger to AAI. Similarly, at Jaipur and Trivandrum airports it will pay Rs 174 and 168 per domestic passenger and Rs 348 and 336 per international passenger respectively. The amount paid for domestic passengers will vary annually based on the retail price index.
Describing the concession agreement as important, Mr. Singh said that the amount received as concession fee will be used for the maintenance and development of other small airports. Also, this amount will also be useful for financial assistance to build new airports and regional connectivity scheme flights.
