Lucknow: In the new year, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given a big gift to the farmers of Uttar Pradesh. From the current month, electricity bills for the use of metered, unmetered, energy efficient pumps in rural areas and metered tube wells in urban areas will be halved as compared to the present. According to estimates, this new system of exemption in electricity bill will bring additional financial burden of about Rs 1000 crore per annum on Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited. For this the state government has decided to give grant to UPPCL. On Thursday, the Chief Minister’s Office gave information about the new decision by tweeting.
Actually, after getting the grant from the government, there will be a change in the electricity rates. According to the proposed new rates, where bills have to be paid at the rate of ₹ 2 / unit on metered connections in rural areas, now only ₹ 1 / unit will have to be paid. The fixed charge for this connection will be ₹ 35/horsepower instead of ₹ 70. Similarly, for unmetered connection, the fixed charge will be ₹170/horsepower @ ₹85 per horsepower.
Whereas for Energy Efficient Pump at the rate of ₹ 1.65/unit (fix charge ₹ 70/horsepower) is charged, farmers will now have to pay only ₹ 0.83/unit ((fix charge ₹ 35/horsepower). Farmers will now have to pay only ₹ 3/unit (fix charge ₹ 65/horsepower) instead of ₹ 6/unit (fix charge ₹ 130/horsepower) for private tube wells with metered connections in urban areas. The decision will directly benefit about 13 lakh consumers of private tube wells.
In Uttar Pradesh, State President of Bharatiya Janata Party Swatantradev Singh tweeted that the Yogi government has taken an important and historic decision to give 50% relief to farmers in electricity bills. On this occasion, I extend hearty congratulations to all the donors and express my gratitude to Yogi Adityanath ji.
