At present, once you have added the card details on any online shopping websites, all you need to do is to enter the CVV (Card Verification Value) and OTP (One-Time Password) to make the payment. The Reserve Bank is reportedly against accepting the payment gateway’s demand for exemption. The new Payment Aggregator/Payment Gateway (PA/PG) rules will make it mandatory for each online merchant processing transaction to have access to only one ‘tokenized key’. E-commerce will have to tie up with the card network for the tokenization system. These tokens will be linked with each card number. No one else can use this token. Only specified merchants will be able to use it. Officials say that keeping the safety of consumers paramount, new rules have been made. He says that the current system is seamless, but there is a possibility of it being breached.
