Bihar: 7 killed due to Cyclone Yaas, massive devastation in the state; Declaration of compensation

Cyclone Yaas Bihar Update: Hurricane caused heavy devastation in Bihar, broken bridge made from pontoon here, 7 people died due to falling house. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate or heavy to very heavy rainfall in most parts of North Bihar on Saturday as well.




Patna: Seven people died due to Cyclone Yaas in Bihar, while moderate to heavy rainfall occurred in most parts of the state on Friday due to the formation of low pressure area in the wake of cyclonic storm. One person each died due to cyclones in the capital Patna (Darbhanga), Darbhanga, Banka, Munger, Begusarai, Gaya and Bhojpur. In the capital, the approach road of Pipa bridge on Bhadra Ghat connecting Patna to Vaishali collapsed. At the same time, Rustampur Peepapul was damaged due to heavy rains in Raghopur of Vaishali.

Still rain forecast
The Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate heavy rain in most parts of North Bihar on Saturday as well. At the same time, CM Nitish Kumar has expressed grief over the death of the people. CM has ordered immediate payment of ex-gratia amount of Rs. 4-4 lakhs to the families of the deceased. The Chief Minister also directed that proper medical help be provided to four persons injured in the cyclone in Begusarai and one each in Gaya (Gaya) and Banka.

Kumar appealed to the people of Bihar to take all precautions as per the warnings issued by the Meteorological Department (IMD) and assured that efforts are being made to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity and water and smooth movement of vehicular traffic.

Opposition attacker
The opposition RJD issued a statement accusing the Nitish Kumar government of submerging the city in view of heavy rains. Let us tell that after the knock on Wednesday in Odisha and West Bengal (West Bengal) from midnight on 26 May, severe cyclonic storm Yas affected Bihar and Jharkhand (Bihar-Jharkhand effected by Yaas). Due to the cyclone, there was heavy rainfall in most areas of the state.

Normal conditions

According to SK Mandal, an official of the meteorological office here, districts of North Bihar like Katihar and Saran received rains close to 200 mm or more. With the strong winds blowing in Patna district, more than 90 mm of rain has been received since yesterday, resulting in heavy water logging in many areas including the main areas of the capital. Gradually things are becoming normal. At the same time, air traffic was interrupted on Thursday evening due to bad weather and resumed in the morning.
