Canada Airline Westjet: This problem has arisen due to the maintenance worker union going on strike, due to which 407 flights had to be cancelled

Canada Airline Westjet: 50 thousand people have faced problems due to cancellation of more than 400 flights in Canada. International and domestic flights here are currently cancelled, the reason for this is said to be a strike. WestJet company said in a statement, this problem has come due to the maintenance worker union going on strike. WestJet is one of the second largest airlines in Canada. The company said that 407 flights had to be cancelled due to the strike. This affected the travel of more than 49,000 people on international and domestic flights in the country.

An American union was blamed

The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) said that its members started the strike on Friday evening. A statement by WestJet President Diederick Penn said that the company is making every effort to intervene and is working round the clock to create a stable network. At the same time, the airline’s CEO Alexis von Honsbroch directly blamed an American union for this situation, which was trying to make inroads in Canada. Vaughan said that an agreement was reached with the union after the mediation of the government, but the situation changed.

Actually, on Thursday, the government had issued an order for mediation. After this, the sudden announcement of the strike started affecting international and domestic flights. WestJet said that it will continue to park the aircraft till Sunday for the long weekend ending on Canada Day on Monday. The airline has about 200 aircraft and says that they will operate about 30 by Sunday evening.

This is the whole matter

The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association has said that union members began the strike on Friday evening due to the airline’s unwillingness to negotiate. Passengers faced a lot of difficulties due to air travel being affected during the Canada Day holiday weekend. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government had tried to stop the strike but could not succeed. At the same time, Alexis Vaughan said that the union rejected a contract proposal that would have made WestJet’s mechanics the highest paid in the country. He apologized for any inconvenience caused to the passengers.
