CBSE Board Exam: A consensus has been reached on the plan to conduct board examinations for class 10 and 12 twice a year. This examination of the entire syllabus will be held in January and April. The Center is preparing to implement the new pattern in CBSE from the next session 2025-26. The first board examination of the new pattern will be held in January 2026 and the second examination of the same session will be held in April 2026. Students will have the option to appear in both the exams. If the student wishes, he can sit in both or any one of the exams as per his convenience. Students taking both the exams will be able to use the result of better performance.

The Ministry of Education has held an important meeting with the principals of CBSE schools regarding education policy, National Curriculum Framework (NCF), Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry i.e. Apaar (APAAR ID), board examinations twice a year and other issues. Some meetings have also been held online in this.

The education department had 3 options…

The first option was that like the semester system of higher education, an exam of half the syllabus should be conducted at the end of every semester in the year. This should be done in September and March. The second option was that just like now, supplementary exams are held in July after the board exams in March-April. At that time, instead of supplementary, the entire board exam should be conducted. At the same time, the third option was that just like exams are conducted twice in January and April for JEE Mains. Similarly, board exams for the entire syllabus should also be conducted once in January and the second time in April.

Most of the principals agree on the third option. Most of the principals have rejected the semester system. On the second option exam in July, their argument was that it would not help the students to save a year or get admission for higher education. The principals have been asked to submit their views in writing.

It will take 2 years for new books to arrive

At the same time, board exams in the year 2025-26 will be conducted on the basis of the old syllabus. It will take 2 years for the books of the new syllabus to arrive. After the arrival of new books, new books for classes 8th, 10th, and 12th will be provided from the session 2026-27.
