CBSE Board Exam: Now CBSE board exam will be held twice a year, approval received from the center, know what will be the pattern

CBSE Board Exam: The central government has approved the plan to conduct board examinations twice a year for class 10 and 12 students. The first board exam of this new pattern will be held in January 2026 and the second exam of the same session will be held in April 2026.

CBSE Board Exam: The central government has approved the plan to conduct board examinations twice a year for class 10 and 12 students. Actually, now under this scheme, the examinations will be based on the entire syllabus and will be conducted in January and April. According to the information, the new scheme is set to be implemented in CBSE from the 2025-26 session. The first board exam of this new pattern will be held in January 2026 and the second exam of the same session will be held in April 2026.

Options for students:

Actually students will be given the option to appear in both the examinations. If they wish, they can take both the exams or sit for any one exam as per their convenience. Whereas the students who will take both the exams will be able to use the result of their better performance. The School Education Department of the Ministry of Education has consulted more than 10,000 school principals across the country in online and physical meetings.

Three options were put before the education department:

First option: ‘Like the semester system of higher education, half-syllabus exams should be held at the end of each semester in September and March.’

Second option: ‘After the board exams in March-April, the full board exams should be held in July instead of the supplementary exam.’

Third option: ‘Just like there are two exams for JEE Mains in January and April, similarly board exams for the entire syllabus should also be held in January and April.’

In fact, most of the principals expressed their support in favour of the third option. The semester system was rejected by most of the principals, while the option of a second exam in July was rejected because it would not help students save a year or get admission in higher education. The principals have been asked to submit their views in writing.

Exams will be held on the old syllabus in 2025-26:

Class 10 and 12 books based on the new syllabus will take 2 years to arrive. These books will be available only in the session 2026-27. Therefore, the board exams of 2025-26 will be conducted on the old syllabus and books only. This will ensure that students get enough time to get comfortable with the new pattern.
