Ahead of the CBSE Exams 2025, the board has once again reminded its affiliated schools that 75% attendance is mandatory for students to appear in board exams.
Before the CBSE 10th 12th exam 2025, the Central Board of Secondary Education has once again reminded its affiliated schools that 75 percent attendance of the student is mandatory to appear in the board exam. If a student’s attendance in school is less than 75 percent, he will be ineligible to appear in the board exam. CBSE has said in its guidelines that the board can give 25 percent relaxation in some cases like medical emergency, participation in national games or any other serious reason etc. To get this relief, the student will have to show the relevant documents.
The board has directed schools to inform students about this. The official notice says, ‘Schools should regularly monitor and maintain attendance records. The attendance register should be updated daily. It should be signed by the class teacher and the competent authority of the school. It should be easily available for inspection by CBSE at any time.’
The central board has reiterated its guidelines at a time when it is very strict against dummy schools. Dummy schools are those schools where attendance is marked without the students coming. This is against the rules of CBSE. Recently, CBSE had issued notices to many schools in Delhi and Rajasthan after conducting surprise inspections and finding irregularities. Actually, ‘dummy schools’ are like normal schools, only students who are preparing for JEE Main, JEE Advanced, NEET exam etc. do not need to come for regular classes here. These are also called non-attending schools. A large number of students preparing for engineering and medical entrance exams (entrance exams like JEE Main and NEET) prefer to enroll in ‘dummy schools’ so that they can focus only on preparing for competitive exams. They do not attend classes and directly appear in the board exams. Now CBSE has come into action to stop this practice.
Apart from this, CBSE has also informed in the notice that the board can also conduct surprise inspections to check the attendance records of the students. During such inspections, if it is found that the records are incomplete or it is found that the students are not coming to school regularly, then the school may face strict action. The recognition of the school can also be canceled. Students can be disqualified from appearing in the board examination.
Complete 9th 11th registration by October 16
CBSE directed all affiliated schools to ensure that the registration of 100 percent of the students of class 9 and 11 studying in their schools is completed by October 16. The board has decided that next year when the LOC is filled, no student will be registered by the board. It has been observed that while submitting the LOC, some schools are informing CBSE that some of their students were left out for registration last year due to the following reasons:
— The student was not well and was admitted to the hospital
— The clerk left out the student by mistake
— Technical error
— Name deleted
— Student was not in the relevant area, etc.
