CGHS Package Rates: If you are a Central Government employee and pensioner then this is an important update. The government has changed the rates of Central Government Health Scheme i.e. CGHS. The new rates have come into effect from February 1. There has been a change in CGHS rates for general surgery. Under the scheme, the government provides health facilities to its employees, pensioners and their dependents.
CGHS Package Rates: There is important news for the employees and pensioners of the Centre. There has been a change in the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) rates for general surgery. This change in rates has been made recently. The CGHS Directorate of the Department of Health and Family Welfare under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has given information regarding this. According to him, the revised rates have come into effect from February 1, 2024. These rates will replace the previous CGHS package rates. Whereas all other terms and conditions have been kept the same. The changed rates will remain valid till further orders.
Who gets the benefit of CGHS facilities?
Central Government employees except Railways and Delhi Administration are eligible for CGHS along with family. Similarly, Central Government pensioners and their families, except Railways and Armed Forces pensioners, can also avail CGHS benefits.
Who is eligible for the revised rates of CGHS package?
The eligibility criteria for availing medical facilities under CGHS is ‘residence’. Therefore, Central Government employees and their family members living in any notified city are covered under this scheme. CGHS services are available in 80 cities across India. The revised rates for general surgeries are applicable in all these cities.
To avail CGHS services, Central Government employees have to submit the necessary forms along with photographs of eligible family members to the Ministry/Department/Office where they are employed.
Central Government pensioners can obtain CGHS card from the Additional Director office in their city. Required forms can be obtained from the city Additional Director office (Additional Director Headquarters in case of Delhi) or downloaded from the CGHS website. If the PPO (Pension Payment Order) is not ready yet then a provisional card can be obtained on the basis of the last pay certificate.

What is CGHS?
CGHS is a health scheme of the government. Under this, it provides health facilities to its employees, pensioners and their dependents. This scheme was started in 1954. Since then it has spread across the country. Under the scheme, facilities like OPD and IPD treatment, medicines and tests are available.
