Commercial Vehicle: The Transport Department has prepared a blueprint for collecting lump sum tax from commercial vehicles plying in the state including Kanpur. To finalize this proposal, departmental officers will brainstorm from Tuesday to Wednesday. After finalizing the proposal, it will be sent to the government after the elections. After this it will be presented in the cabinet and approved. In any case, a lump sum tax will be collected from commercial vehicles under the new system till September. In the first phase, it will be implemented in e-rickshaws, autos, tempos, vehicles loading 7.5 tonnes, JCB, cranes, maxi cabs, taxis.
Preparation for tax increase from 15 to 25 percent
The Transport Department has also prepared a plan to increase tax on all types of vehicles by 15 to 25 percent. The Transport Department believes that there has been no increase in vehicle tax for 13 years.
This is the current tax regime for commercial vehicles
On taxi, maxi cab – quarterly or annually
Three Wheeler – Annually
Goods up to 3 tons – quarterly or annually
Passenger Vehicles – Monthly, Quarterly
Decision on buses, trucks later
In UP, buses and trucks have been kept out of the proposal to collect lump sum tax. Officials believe that the monthly tax on these vehicles is more than Rs 8 to 10 thousand, so it would be a huge amount to collect in lump sum. For this reason no proposal has been made on these yet.
Revised tax may become effective from September
The proposal prepared by the Transport Department. This will be implemented till September-2024. The transport officer said that it will be sent to the government in June. From there it will be placed in the cabinet meeting and approved. This process will take three months. For this reason it will come into effect in September-2024.
Will get relief from arrears
The transport officer said that at present, billions of rupees are outstanding in the form of tax on commercial vehicles alone in the entire state including Kanpur. When there is a provision for lump sum tax, the problem of recovery of arrears will not only be solved but the problem of tax arrears in future will also end.
