Bharat Biotech has announced a price cut in the states of its Kovid-19 vaccine Covaxin.

Covid-19 Vaccine Update: Bharat Biotech on Thursday announced a price cut of its Kovid-19 vaccine Covaxin in the states. Now the price of this vaccine from the states has been reduced from the earlier Rs 600 per dose to Rs 400 per dose. Earlier, the policy was facing a lot of criticism regarding the company’s price. Because the company was selling Covaxin at a price of Rs 150 per dose to the central government.

A day earlier, the Serum Institute of India (SII) reduced the price of its Kovid-19 vaccine Covishield from Rs 400 to Rs 300 per dose for state governments.

What did the company say?
Bharat Biotech stated in its announcement that keeping in mind the major challenges in the public health system, they have made Covaxin available to the state governments at a price of Rs 400 per dose. It further states that the company is very concerned about these fragile conditions of the epidemic, which India is facing at this time.

Bharat Biotech stated that they aspire to be transparent in their approach to prices, which was decided by internally funded product development, some BSL-3 manufacturing facilities and clinical trials.

According to official sources, the central government on Monday asked SII and Bharat Biotech to reduce the prices of their Kovid-19 vaccine. The reason for this was the criticism from many states, who accused the companies of making profits during this big crisis. The price was discussed in a meeting chaired by Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gabba. Many states have lodged objections to different vaccine prices.
