Cyclone Michong: Fishermen are prohibited from going into the sea amid warning of heavy rain in this state on December 5.

According to IMD, due to the formation of a low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, Cyclone Michong has formed there, due to which there are strong winds and rain in the coastal areas.

Cyclone Michaung: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy rain in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu after the low pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal. According to IMD, Cyclone Michong will hit the coast of Andhra Pradesh on December 5, due to which there will be strong winds and heavy rains in the coastal areas.

In view of the cyclone, the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) on Friday (December 1, 2023) reviewed the preparedness for better coordination between state governments and central ministries and their associated departments. According to the statement, the meeting was informed that fishermen have been asked not to venture into the sea, while adequate number of shelters, power supply, medicines and emergency services are being kept ready.

What are the preparations of NDRF?

NDRF has constituted 18 rescue teams for Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Puducherry and has kept 10 additional teams ready. Relief and rescue teams from the Coast Guard, Army and Navy have been kept ready with ships and aircraft. Reviewing the preparedness of the central agencies and the governments of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Puducherry, the Cabinet Secretary said that all necessary precautionary measures should be taken by the officials of the state governments.

The Cabinet Secretary assured the governments of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Puducherry that all central agencies are ready and will be available to assist them.

Where will Michong go from?

The cyclone is likely to move west-northwestwards, form a deep area of low air pressure by December 2 and turn into a cyclonic storm around December 3 over the Bay of Bengal. Further, it will move towards northwest and reach near South Andhra Pradesh and North Tamil Nadu coast on December 4. After this, it will turn into a cyclonic storm between Nellore and Machilipatnam on December 5 and the wind speed will be 80-90 km per hour.
