CM Bhagwant Mann has announced to release the outstanding installment of 6 percent dearness allowance to the employees during the time of the former Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP government.
There will be a burden of 356 crores on the exchequer
Now it was said on behalf of the Punjab government that the pending installment of 6 percent Dearness Allowance (DA) from July 2015 to December 31, 2015 will be released. A spokesperson of the CM’s office said that this would put a financial burden of Rs 356 crore on the state exchequer. CM Bhagwant Mann said that the state employees are an important part of the state administration and protecting their interests is the priority of the government.
Great gift for employees
Mann announced through a tweet that ‘A big gift for government employees…Today we have released one installment of the outstanding dearness allowance of government employees…The arrears of dearness allowance is in line with the increase of 6% from July. It has been approved from 1 July 2015 to 31 December 2015. This will cost the state exchequer Rs 356 crore…we do what we say…’
Directed to pay the dues
There was a long standing demand from the government employees for the arrears of DA. On this occasion, Finance Minister Harpal Cheema said that the AAP government is clearing the dues of the previous governments as well. Recently, the High Court directed the state government to clear the dues of the employees. The file was placed before the CM on behalf of the Finance Department. The CM gave the green signal to this file. There is a wave of happiness among the employees after the decision on dearness allowance is about 7 to 8 years old.
Let us tell you that the dearness allowance of central government employees is increased every six months. The increase in dearness allowance made by the government in last March came into effect from January 1. The next DA for central employees is expected to be announced in September. It will be implemented from 1 July.
