DA Hike: Good news! DA of these employees increased by 5% from November 1 - Details

The Tripura government has announced 5 per cent dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR) for its 1.88 lakh employees and pensioners. The hike is effective from November 1.

7th pay commission: Recently, the central government had announced a 3 percent increase in dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR) for employees. Similarly, different states of the country have also increased the allowances. In this episode, the Tripura government has announced 5 percent dearness allowance and dearness relief for its 1.88 lakh employees and pensioners. This increase is effective from November 1.

How much will be the burden

According to Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Sushant Choudhary, the decision to increase the allowance of state government employees was taken despite the current challenges. He said – Our government is giving priority to the well-being of our workforce. We have decided to issue 5 percent DA and DR to our employees and pensioners. This will cost an additional Rs 500 crore from the state treasury. This move will benefit more than 1.6 lakh government employees and 82,000 pensioners. The new increase will increase the total dearness allowance for state government employees to 30 percent.

7th Pay Commission is applicable from 2018

The BJP government, which came to power in March 2018, implemented the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission from October 1, 2018. While the Left Front government traditionally released DA twice a year, the current BJP government has done so in multiple phases. The last hike was in March this year. Then 5 per cent DA and DR was announced. This reduced the DA gap between central and state government employees from 26 per cent to 21 per cent. In the last two years, the government has approved 27 per cent DA. With the additional 5 per cent, state government employees now get 30 per cent DA compared to 53 per cent received by central government employees and pensioners.
