Dearness Allowance: Countdown begins for 4% increase in dearness allowance, employees will get the gift before Diwali

Dearness Allowance: Government employees and pensioners will get the gift of increase in DA/DR rates in the November salary. An increase in dearness allowance/dearness relief may be announced before Diwali. Last year, the Union Cabinet had approved the release of additional installment of dearness allowance and dearness relief on October 18. The rates of DA/DR were implemented from July 1, 2023.

The countdown has started for central government employees and pensioners to get 4 percent dearness allowance / dearness relief. If sources are to be believed, the proposal to increase the rates of DA / DR has been prepared. Now it will be sent for the approval of the Union Cabinet. Government employees and pensioners will see the gift of increase in DA / DR rates in the November salary. An increase in dearness allowance / dearness relief may be announced before Diwali.

Last year, the Union Cabinet had approved the release of additional installment of dearness allowance and dearness relief on October 18. The rates of DA / DR came into effect from July 1, 2023. 48.67 lakh employees and 67.95 lakh pensioners of the Central Government had benefited. At present, DA / DR is being given at the rate of 50 percent. If there is an increase of four percent, then the rate of DA will be 54 percent.

Let us tell you that the central government had announced a four percent increase in DA rates on September 28 in 2022. Diwali was on October 24 that year, so the government had announced DA / DR in the last week of September. Last year Diwali was on November 12, so the government had announced the release of an additional installment of dearness allowance and dearness relief on October 18. This time Diwali can be celebrated at the end of October or on November 1. In such a situation, the Union Cabinet is likely to approve the proposal to increase the rates of DA / DR around Dussehra. When the DA rates were increased by four percent (likely) in January 2024, the dearness allowance had reached 50 percent.

SB Yadav, General Secretary of Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers, said, earlier the increase in DA rates was announced in September itself. After this, three months’ arrears were paid to the employees in the first week of October. There is deep dissatisfaction among central employees and pensioners regarding the delay in the announcement of these allowances. Yadav has also written a letter to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in this regard. In this, the government has been requested to release these allowances without delay.

According to Yadav, the government announces the increase in the rates of dearness allowance (DA) several months late. Through this, the government itself earns a good profit. The increase in the rates of DA / DR puts an economic burden on the government. In such a situation, the government announces DA / DR three to four months late. During this period, the government’s money is invested, on which it gets a good interest.
