In the non-PDS category, ie those without ration cards, the Delhi government will distribute ration not from fair price shops, but from schools. This ration will be distributed to 10 lakh people every month. For this, the Food and Supplies Department has issued a list of 282 schools and given written instructions to the Delhi State Civil Supplies Corporation Limited (DSCSCL).
Actually, there is a clear order of the Supreme Court that even those without ration cards should be given free ration. Although, during the Corona period, the Delhi government was also distributing free ration from schools to such people, but a fortnight ago the Food and Supplies Department planned to distribute non-PDS ration from two shops in each ward. For this, about 560 shops have been selected all over Delhi, but in view of the ongoing tussle with the ration shopkeepers, now the department has decided to distribute ration from the schools itself.
In fact, shopkeepers were protesting against distributing ration without remuneration and even generating coupons themselves. In view of this, on Thursday evening, the department issued an order to distribute ration to 10 lakh people of non-PDS category from the schools itself and also issued the list of identified schools. Now migrant laborers who do not have ration card will be able to get ration from 282 schools identified in Delhi.
In the order issued by the Assistant Commissioner of the department, the General Manager of DSCSCL has been directed to lift the food grains at the non-PDS point at the earliest. On behalf of the department, a non-PDS point has been made on one school in each ward. From where four kg wheat and one kg rice will be distributed to each beneficiary. A total of 40 lakh quintals of wheat and 10 lakh quintals of rice will be delivered to these points by DMSCSC.
