New Delhi: Under the expansion of Delhi Metro’s Golden and Green Line, DMRC is going to build two new corridors very soon. These two new corridors approved under the fourth phase will be from Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block and Indralok to Indraprastha. For the construction of the corridor, DMRC has started the process for other necessary approvals including land acquisition. DMRC officials say that both these corridors are expected to be ready by 2028. These projects were approved by the Union Cabinet in the month of March this year. A senior official associated with Delhi Metro said, ‘Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is currently completing the process of land acquisition from Delhi Development Authority, Central Public Works Department and PWD and other legal approvals including approval of Forest Department. We believe that the construction work of these two corridors will start in a few months. Apart from this, work on laying tracks, electrical system, signaling and other technical works will be carried forward soon.’

10 metro stations in Indralok-Indraprastha corridor

According to a Delhi Metro official, ‘However, before starting these works, further processes related to planning and tender for civil construction works are being started. The target has been set to complete both the corridors by 2028.’ The 12.4 km long Indralok-Indraprastha corridor will have 10 metro stations. At the same time, the length of the Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block corridor is 8.4 km and it has eight metro stations. Also, there will be eight interchange stations in both these corridors. These include Indralok, Nabi Karim, New Delhi, Delhi Gate and Indraprastha on the Indralok-Indraprastha corridor, while Lajpat Nagar, Chirag Delhi and Saket G Block interchange stations will be built on the Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block.

The number of interchange stations will increase to 48

Let us tell you that at present there are 29 interchange stations in Delhi Metro, which were built under Phase 1, 2 and 3. Under Phase 4, three corridors have been kept on priority, in which 11 interchange stations are being built separately. Now after the construction of eight interchange stations in the new corridor, the total number of interchange stations in Delhi Metro will increase to 48. Work is currently underway on the three priority corridors of Phase 4 – Majlis Park to Maujpur, Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg and Aerocity to Tughlakabad.

Kashmiri Gate is currently the only triple interchange station

Triple interchange stations will be built at Lajpat Nagar and New Delhi Metro stations. At present, Kashmiri Gate is the only station in the Delhi Metro network that connects three corridors. These include Rithala to Shaheed Sthal (New Bus Adda Ghaziabad) on the Red Line, Millennium City Centre to Samaypur Badli on the Yellow Line and Kashmiri Gate to Raja Nahar Singh (Ballabhgarh) station on the Violet Line. Azadpur will also become a triple interchange station after the RK Ashram-Janakpuri West corridor becomes operational.
