Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory regarding the celebration of New Year’s Eve i.e. 31 December, while DMRC has also issued guidelines. Read them carefully before leaving home today.
DMRC Update: The new year is going to start in the country and the world from tomorrow. People celebrate every year on 31 December to bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new year. Preparations for this start several days in advance. Amidst the preparations for the celebration of the beginning of the year 2025, Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory for the public in view of Tuesday night (31 December). At the same time, DMRC has also implemented some rules.
2,500 personnel deployed, strict vigil will be kept on drink and drive
Every year, a large number of people come to celebrate on 31 December in Delhi’s Connaught Place, India Gate and Hauz Khas etc. Delhi Police will take active steps to ensure smooth traffic and public safety around such areas. Delhi Traffic Police will have about 2,500 personnel deployed to ensure smooth movement of vehicles. Apart from this, about 250 teams will also be formed to keep an eye on drunk drivers on New Year’s Eve. At the same time, 11 CAPF companies and 40 bike patrol teams along with the same number of foot patrol teams have also been pressed into service. Traffic control measures will be in force in and around Connaught Place from 8 pm on New Year’s Eve till the end of the celebrations (i.e. after midnight).
Restrictions will remain for these places
According to the advisory issued by Delhi Police, no vehicle will be allowed to enter the Connaught Place area beyond Mandi House, Bengali Market and other major intersections. These areas will be open only for vehicles with valid passes that will be able to enter the inner, middle or outer circles of Connaught Place. Parking will also be restricted in some areas, specific spaces have been designated for parking near Gole Dakkhana, Patel Chowk and Mandi House, which will be on a first come, first served basis. Unauthorized vehicles parked in such areas will face towing and penalties by the authorities.
No permission to leave Rajiv Chowk metro station after 9 pm
At the same time, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has also issued an advisory, stating that exit from Rajiv Chowk Metro Station will not be allowed after 9 pm. Entry will remain open till the last train passes through the station. According to the DMRC statement, ‘As per the advice of police officials, exit from Rajiv Chowk Metro Station will not be allowed after 9 pm to reduce congestion on New Year’s Eve (31 December 2024). However, passengers will be allowed entry till the departure of the last train from Rajiv Chowk Metro Station.’
DMRC advice
The DMRC statement said that passengers are requested to plan their journey accordingly. Service on the rest of the metro network will be available as per the regular time table. Alternative routes have been suggested for those going to New Delhi Railway Station, such as Ram Manohar Lohia Park Street, Mandir Marg and Rani Jhansi Road etc. People have been advised to use the metro for their journey. Officials have advised commuters to avoid Bhairon Road/Mathura Road between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Pragati Maidan as they may get stuck in congestion.
