Environment Minister Gopal Rai said on Wednesday that bursting crackers in Delhi will attract a jail term of up to 6 months and a fine of Rs 200. Along with this, under section 9B of the Explosives Act, the production, storage and sale of firecrackers in the capital can be punished with a fine of up to Rs 5,000 and a jail term of three years. At the same time, strict action will be taken on the sale of firecrackers without a license in Mumbai.
Ban for two years
Rai said that the Delhi government has completely banned the production, sale and use of all types of firecrackers till January 1 in September. The festival of Diwali also comes in this period. He said that this is being done for the last two years. A public awareness campaign- ‘Diya Jalao crackers nahi’ will be started in Delhi from October 21.
Rai said that the Delhi government will light 51,000 diyas in the Central Park of Connaught Place on Friday. With this, the purchase and bursting of firecrackers in Delhi will attract a fine of Rs 200 and imprisonment for six months under the Indian Penal Code.

Teams will strictly monitor
Rai said that 408 teams have been formed to implement this ban in Delhi. At the same time, Delhi Police has formed 210 teams under the Assistant Commissioner of Police, while the Revenue Department has formed 165 teams and Delhi Pollution Control Committee has formed 33 teams.

Strictness will remain in Mumbai too
The Mumbai Police also said on Wednesday that action will be taken against those firecrackers who do not have a license to ban the sale of firecrackers without permission in Mumbai.
