Delhi Metro New Route: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is preparing to build a new metro corridor. A 7 km long underground new metro corridor is likely to be built to connect the ‘Common Central Secretariat’ to India Gate, Bharat Mandapam and North and South Blocks with Indraprastha Metro Station. Giving information about this, sources said that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been asked to finalize the proposed corridor.

It will help in reducing congestion in Central Delhi

He said that this would be an extension of the Indralok-Indraprastha Metro Corridor, which was approved by the Union Cabinet earlier this year. According to the plan, the proposed line will pass through ‘Kartavya Path’ and end in North and South Blocks. A museum is proposed here as part of the Central Vista plan. Sources said this will help reduce congestion in central Delhi as the number of visitors has increased after the redevelopment of Kartavya Path.

10 new office buildings will also be built

Along with helping in reducing congestion, 10 new office buildings will also be built under the ‘Common Central Secretariat’, which will house various ministries. Three of the 10 buildings are currently under construction. Apart from this, a museum is also proposed in the North and South Blocks. Once the new metro corridor is operational, it will provide convenience to thousands of people.

The source said that the plan is still in the initial stages. Metro stations on the proposed corridor will come up at places like Bharat Mandapam, India Gate and North and South Blocks. New Parliament and Vice President’s building have been built under the Central Vista Re-Development Plan. Also, the 3 km stretch of Kartavya Path from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate has also been given a new look. (Input also from Bhasha)
