Dearness Relief: Dearness Relief (DR) for Central Government pensioners has recently been increased from 4 percent to 50 percent. These increased prices will be applicable from January 1, 2024. According to an office memorandum dated March 13, 2024, the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare (DOPPW) will implement DR in several categories.
DR of these employees will increase
Civilian Central Government Pensioners/Family Pensioners including Central Government Pensioners in PSUs/Autonomous Bodies for whom pension under this Department’s Office Memorandum No. 4/34/2002-P&PW(D) Vol.II dated 23.06.2017 Orders have been issued. Full pension will be restored after the completion of the commutation period of 15 years.
- Armed forces pensioners or family pensioners and civilian pensioners or family pensioners are paid from the Defense Services.
- All India Service Pensioners and Family Pensioners.
- Railway/Family Pensioners.
- Pensioners on final pension.
- Burma Civilian pensioners/family pensioners, as well as pensioners/families of displaced Government pensioners from Burma/Pakistan will be instructed under this Department’s OM No. 23/3/2008-P&PW(B) dated 11.09.2017. Meanwhile, according to DoPPW, the Justice Department will issue separate orders for retired Supreme Court and High Court judges.
How much DR will pensioners and family pensioners get?
Dearness relief has been increased by 4 percent. With the increase in DR, the monthly pension of retired central government employees will increase.
For example, central government pensioners get Rs 40,100 every month as basic pension. Pensioners will get Rs 18,446 as DR on 46 percent dearness relief. After the new increase, you will get Rs 20,050 as DR every month. This will increase his monthly pension by Rs 1,604. Pensioners and family pensioners are soon going to get enhanced dearness relief as DOPPW has directed banks to start payment of DR to pensioners and family pensioners without waiting for further orders.
